Prostate inflammation is a problem for many men over the age of 40. This disease often becomes chronic. This is due to neglect of the pathology, as men rarely go to the doctor when the first symptoms appear. Also, prostatitis becomes chronic due to the influence of negative factors. At this stage, various drugs are prescribed for the treatment of chronic prostatitis in men, because the therapy should be long and complex.
But in order for remission to last longer in case of illness, a man must not only take all the prescribed medications for treatment, but also lead a healthy lifestyle and follow the diet prescribed by the attending physician.
Factors that provoke and worsen prostatitis include:
- alcohol abuse;
- smoking;
- sedentary lifestyle;
- infectious and viral diseases;
- wrong diet.
Chronic prostatitis
Many men do not understand how destructive this disease is for their body. If you do not perform medical therapy on time, chronic prostatitis can be complicated. These complications include:
- prostate abscess;
- formation of cysts and stones in the prostate, which can only be treated with surgery;
- vesiculitis. In this disease, inflammation of the seminal vesicles occurs;
- sclerosis of the prostate occurs most often due to untreated prostatitis, and this complication is treated only by surgery;
- impotence;
- infertility;
- , and sometimes even prostate cancer.
The symptoms and treatment of these complications are different, but all these pathologies are serious. Most often, these complications are treated with surgery.
All complications can be prevented by regular visits to the urologist and proctologist. Men after the age of 45 must visit these doctors once a year. And take lab tests (PSA concentration in general).
Drugs for the treatment of chronic prostatitis
How to treat prostatitis? There are several necessary medications to treat chronic prostatitis because prostatitis cannot be treated with a single drug. Complex therapy includes antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antispasmodics. It is also very important to take vitamins and medications that support immunity.
Antibacterial drugs
Which groups of drugs will be prescribed for chronic prostatitis depends on the causes of its occurrence. If the contagious nature of the disease is determined, then the main components of the therapy will be antibacterial drugs. As a rule, they are chosen by a wide range of actions, but sometimes others are also named. The duration of treatment for exacerbation of chronic prostatitis depends on the severity of its manifestation. Taking antibiotics can take 14 days or even 3 months.
Regulations may be completely different, as appropriate laboratory tests for sensitivity to these drugs are performed before appointment. Antibiotics are most often prescribed in the form of injections, less often tablets. Because these drugs in the form of injections are much faster and more effective.
Drugs from several groups are sometimes prescribed for acute inflammation.
Immunomodulators and immunostimulants
In chronic prostatitis, which is caused by infection, it is simply necessary to take immunomodulators. These drugs are taken together with antibiotics, because they promote better penetration of the active substance into the focus of inflammation, and also restore the balance of the components of the immune system, thus your own body actively begins to fight inflammation. Also, in chronic prostatitis, it is recommended to take these medications twice a year as a preventive measure.
This type of medicine should only be prescribed by a doctor, because incorrect dosing and long-term use of immunomodulators can lead to the opposite effect, namely to a chronic decrease in immunity. These drugs are available in the form of solutions for injection and rectal suppositories. Most often, in the period of worsening, a course of 5-10 days is prescribed in the form of injections, and then a gradual transition to suppositories.
Anti-inflammatory drugs
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed to quickly relieve discomfort because they reduce inflammation and swelling. This is how the pain is removed.
In particularly acute cases, these drugs are ineffective, then hormonal drugs are prescribed. Sometimes hormonal anti-inflammatory drugs are used in physiotherapeutic procedures, ie electrophoresis, thus acting locally on the prostate. In this case, the hormonal drug has no general effect on the body.
Alpha blockers
This type of medicine is increasingly prescribed for chronic prostatitis today. Alpha blockers act on the bladder and prostate, or on their receptors. Therefore, they relax the muscles, and thus facilitate urination. This means that the pain during urination is removed.
But these drugs affect blood pressure readings, and alpha-blockers lower it. They are contraindicated in people who have severe hypotension. This combination will lead to dangerous consequences.
Antispasmodics
Severe pain in the perineum is common during exacerbations of chronic prostatitis. In this case, spasms of the intertwined muscles occur. This means that the use of antispasmodics and muscle relaxants is required.
General tonic and tonic remedies
This group includes drugs that are prescribed to improve gland function. And they must necessarily be prescribed as part of the main drug therapy.
Local preparations
Topical drugs for the treatment of chronic prostatitis are particularly effective. In the case of prostatitis, these are rectal suppositories. In this form, pharmacological companies produce antispasmodics, antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The use of drugs in such a dosage form is possible both in the acute course of the disease and in other cases, for example, after surgery.
Both suppositories and ointments that are injected rectally are effective enough because they act directly on the prostate. When introduced into the rectum, they are absorbed into its walls, and the prostate is in close proximity to the posterior wall of the intestine. Moreover, such drugs for the treatment of prostatitis do not pass through the whole body and liver, where part of the active substance is metabolized.
It is important to note that it is forbidden to prescribe such candles and fats on your own. Because a high concentration of the active substance is absorbed into the gland and if used improperly, overdose and complications in the wrong dose can occur.
